THE MAKING OF

The seeds that grow into our flowers, herbs and grains are put into the soil every year around March. Only once the eye of the master has approved all products, it’s time to harvest. This happens between June and August. Here’s where the unique drying process begins, where the color and quality are optimally preserved. The dried flowers of Dutch Masters in Dried Flowers are super strong, because they have been dried in a professional way.

Do you know that grain has a green colour right after the harvest? When the flowers are cut, we hang the bunches of grain upside down in a warm and dry shed for 48 hours. This drying process gives them their characteristic natural colour, which suits all seasons 🤩

A white-pink flower sea that smells great. This is the greenhouse of father and son van Leeuwen. They grow the white and pink Acroclinium, which look like a small daisy 🌸 Do you know that the greenhouse is on wheels? In spring, when the flowers start to grow, we let them blow in the wind. In this way, the flowers become very firm. Later on, we roll the greenhouse over the fields. In case of very hard storm, the greenhouse can still protect the flowers from breaking.

Sowing starts in the spring, says grower Willem. “The seeds are planted in March or April. After that we keep a close eye on the wheat.” When the master's eye has approved the crops, the harvest can take place in June, July or August, depending on the weather conditions. Do you also love wheat? 🎋💚

Hey Teun! 👋 When seller Teun from @mastersindriedflowers arrives at grower van der Spek in Nieuw Vennep, Willem always welcomes him with a big smile on his face. Willem van der Spek runs the family business which is known all over the world for its high-quality dried flowers. And the quality of the flowers is clearly visible: the wheat looks great! When Teun enters the fields, he sees seas of wheat dancing on the wind 🌾 When the wheat is ready to dry, Willem hangs the bunches in a comfortable warm shed. Upside down the bunches need 48 hours to dry well, giving them their characteristic natural color.

HOW IT’S MADE 🌱 The lavender in the Netherlands is too fresh to dry. That’s why we let our lavender grow in the Provence. Because of the limestone soil in the south of France, the lavender can grow naturally. The flowers are harvested by hand with a sickle. After that the flowers will be devided in even bunches.
